Tulsa, Okla., (May 16, 2011) – Community Care College (CCC), along with its branch campuses, Clary Sage College (CSC) and Oklahoma Technical College (OTC), are starting a bike share program named Green Fleet beginning this May to benefit both students and employees.

“Green Fleet is a great compliment to our current wellness initiative. I have had such great feedback from our employees and can’t wait to get the program started,” said Amanda Bringham, Assistant to CEO.

Students and employees at the Colleges will be able to check out the Green Fleet bikes for a week at a time to use for transportation, exercise and to travel from one campus to another. The program is to compliment the College’s current Corporate Wellness initiative (access to company gym, personal trainers and walking path around CSC). It is also an effort to become more environmentally conscious.

The bicycles are Worksmans Cycles, who is one of America’s oldest cycle manufacturers being established in 1898. The bicycles are made-in-American in their factory in Queens, New York. The Colleges are using the Classic Heavyweight Cruiser to be painted green and white in the Green Fleet program.

In addition to the bicycles, participants will also rent a basket, helmet and lock. The items will be checked in/out through each campus’ bookstore. CCC and CSC will each have 10 bicycles and OTC will have five to start out with.

Tulsa, Okla., (May-2011) – May 2 through May 6, Community Care College (CCC), Clary Sage College (CSC) and Oklahoma Technical College (OTC) will host Student Appreciation Week.

“Student Appreciation Week gives us an avenue to express our gratitude to our students, in a fun and exciting way. I don’t think you could find another college President that is brave enough to endure several hours of being dunked in a dunk tank, solely for the enjoyment of the student body. Yet, that is exactly what Dr. Kirk volunteered to do.”, said event organizer Tosha Newsom, Administrative Assistant to the President.

The highlight of the week will be the college-wide carnival hosted at OTC’s campus on Thursday, May 5, for both day and evening students. At the carnival, students can “Dunk the President” and play traditional fairway games to win tickets. The more tickets a student earns, the more times their name is placed into the drawing for a free lunch with the college President, Dr. Kevin Kirk; one day and evening student from each campus will be selected. A fair share of cotton candy, popcorn, snow cones and hot dogs will be served by faculty and staff volunteers. The large inflatable moon bounce-rock wall-slide combination will be a way for students to free themselves from the stresses of school.

Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday’s events include, root beer floats, karaoke, raffle prizes, and dress up days. Students can break dress code and wear their favorite sports team gear or at CSC they can showcase their creativity with make-up artistry, hair styling and fashion by dressing up their favorite princess or fantasy character.

Tulsa, Okla., (April 27, 2011) – Effective immediately, the Pharmacy Technician Program (PhT) at Community Care College (CCC) will be using mock-meds in the laboratory.

“The students were very excited to begin using the Mock-Meds in the lab. My goal was to enhance my students’ learning experience by providing the most realistic training drug products available so that they are more confident and prepared to step into their career as a pharmacy technician,” said Amber Smith, PhT department head.

Mock-Meds provides realistic practice medications for students including capsules, tablets, injections and antibiotic suspensions. Previously, students used other substitutes for tablets and capsules.

The educationally qualified pharmacy technician is a very important part of the pharmacy industry. Upon receipt of state permit, some of the duties graduates may be responsible for include: receiving incoming prescriptions, transcribing physician’s orders, calculating

dosages, using drug distribution systems, preparing IV’s, packaging medications, filling patient cassettes, labeling prescriptions, and interfacing with patients. The CCC PhT program equips the graduate with the skills and knowledge necessary to meet the requirements of an entry-level Pharmacy Technician and the ability to assume such a position. The Associate of Occupational Science degree is designed to provide a foundation that will enable degree holders to seek and apply for management roles in their healthcare specialties. The graduate will be fully prepared to take the CPhT examination. Employment opportunities for graduates include positions in hospitals, medical centers, skilled nursing facilities, private pharmacies, retail drug stores, outpatient clinics, and pharmaceutical companies.
